Dawson's Creek, the hip new show about high school and all the pressures of life, has gone where no teen show has ever gone before. The show is centred around Dawson Leery, a day dreamer, and aspiring film maker. He idolizes Steven Spielberg and he writes, directs and produces movies in his back yard. His best friend Joey (Josephine) has been sleeping over at his house since they were little. They could talk about anything, but all that has changed. A new girl in town, name Jennifer Lindley, came from New York City to live with her grandparents (which happen to be Dawson's neighbours) to escape a rebellious past. For a short time, Dawson and Jen had a confusing relationship. Jen eventually broke up with Dawson because she needed time to her self.
Joey insists that Dawson inserts conflicts into all his relationships and experiences to make his perfect life more exciting. Joey lives with her sister, her sister's boyfriend and their child because her mother died of cancer and her father is in jail for a drug conviction. She has developed a "thing" for Dawson over the years, and after he finds out about it they become a couple.
On the other hand, Pacey, Dawson's other best friend, had a steamy affair with his English teacher Miss. Jacobs. When the school and adminastration found out about it, Miss. Jacobs was charged with having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old. Pacey busted into the courtroom and exclaimed that he made it all up, which wasn't true, but it got Tamera Jacobs off the hook. She then skipped town. Pacey works along with Dawson at the local video store. Some may argue that his favourite movie is The Graduate, but I'm convinced that he's just a very misguided teen grasping for adulthood.
The creator, Kevin Williamson (who wrote Scream and did the the screen play for I Know What You Did Last Summer) says that Dawson's life is drawn from some of his own life experiences with a girl named Fannie Norwood. "She would come over and she would spend the night for years," Williamson explains. "Her parent knew it, my parents knew it. It was like your best buddy staying over. I feel much richer as a result of it."
